The autumn boat show season has started and Fairline Boats can boast of booming business at its Northamptonshire factory. Fairline Boats is one of the world's leading luxury motor yacht manufacturers. The company has confirmed advanced deposited orders of over 100 million pounds for the first time in the company's history. And in two months alone seven confirmed sales for its flagship Squadron 78.
Two new models, Targa 44 and Targa 64 Gran Turismo, were launched at Cannes and Southampton Boat Shows last week. Even before world debut the company has already received over 40 confirmed orders for the Targa 44 as well as has seen constant demand for its 11-boat range around the world. It proves brand's leading position in the luxury motor yacht market.
With the help of a professional dealer network in over 35 countries world-wide the demand for the Fairline brand has increased during the last year. James Robinson, Fairline's Sales and Marketing Director, said they are confident the current range of boats will continue to attract high demand.

17 September 2007, St. Petersburg - Volvo Race finish city

St. Petersburg
St Petersburg, the Russian port city, will be the finish port for the 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race. Russia will have its own entry in the race backed by St Petersburg businessman Oleg Zherebtsov.
Glenn Bourke, Volvo Ocean Race CEO, together with City Governor Valentina Matvienko, made an announcement at a press conference in St Petersburg. They added it was a goal to take the race finish to Russia's second largest city. According to Matvienko, St. Petersburg is fairly considered Russia's sailing capital and has the experience and knowledge to organize guests and race participants at the highest level.
The race will start Alicante, Spain, on 11 October, 2008 and is going to last about 10 months, covering more than 39,000 nautical miles and visiting up to 12 ports.
The fleet will pay a visit to a Qingdao city, China, home to next year's Olympic sailing regatta. Then will be South America, the U.S. East Coast, across the North Atlantic to Galway, then Sweden and to St Petersburg in late June 2009.
Bourke also recalled that Russian city Sochi recently won the right to host the 2014 Winter Olympics, improving the image of the country. St Petersburg also recently announced that it would bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Six entries have been confirmed already with crews racing aboard the Volvo Open 70, the world's fastest monohull racing yach.

19 September 2007, Hamburg Boat Show to host 900 exhibitors

Over 900 exhibitors from 21 nations will present more than 1200 boats and yachts at the 48th Hamburg International Boat Show. The show will be held from 27 October to 4 November at the Hanseboot harbour. A lot of premieres, innovations in equipment, accessories and electronic yacht accessories are expected to be displayed.
The supporting programme will include a Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Building, a Marina Forum, and the Blue Water Seminar with Bobby Schenk. Very practical presentations on a series of boating subjects will be held by the German Boat and Ship Builders Association.
There will be also interesting activities and shows, for example, the 23rd art maritim, showing some 30 contemporary marine artists and gallery owners to present their works related to the sea and watersports.
The 48th Hamburg International Boat Show will have more space than before. Five of the new halls will already be in use for this year's event, and the new fair site is scheduled for final completion at the end of 2008.

Lewmar, marine equipment manufacturer in UK, has appointed Gregory Smith as chief operating officer of its US subsidiary, Lewmar USA, and president of its marine rigging division, Navtec Corporation.
Smith will be responsible for managing the two companies' new US investment in manufacturing and product development. He will be based in the main office for both Lewmar USA and Navtec, in Guilford, Connecticut.
Before joining Lewmar, Smith used to be director of operations for General Electric Aviation's Times Microwaves Systems in Waterbury, Connecticut. Prior to that, he had his own manufacturing business and was general manager of the Windsor, Connecticut division of Barnes Group Inc, an aerospace component manufacturer.
Lewmar designs, manufactures and distributes a wide range of boating equipment including anchors, winch, windlass, hatch, hardware, rigging, steering, and thrusters. Manufacturing takes place in Britain and the US, while sales and assembly offices are located in Australia, France, The Netherlands, the UK and the US.
Navtec division designs, manufactures, and distributes performance rigging and hydraulic systems for sailboats, including America's Cup yachts and performance cruising yachts.

Fedor Konyukhov, a Russian yachtsman has taken up the challenge to sail around Antarctica.
He has a lot of sailing experience, has already done four global circumnavigations and has crossed the Atlantic fourteen times.
He even has crossed the Atlantic in a rowing boat once. But still, it is very dangerous venture - 14,600 mile solo circumnavigation of Antarctica.
He will attempt this with his 27 metre yacht, "Trading Network Alye Parusa" and at the moment he is preparing himself and his yacht in the United Kingdom. In January he will set off from Albany, Western Australia.
Bob Williams, CEO of Antarctica Cup Management said that the city of Albany is waiting in anticipation to hosting this historical event. The extreme sports nature and historical significance of Fedor's record attempt will attract attention of audiences.

Darren Dubois has been employed by Marine Concepts, a US provider of fibreglass tooling services to join the company's project management team.
The company needed to hire an experienced project manager to handle upcoming projects, because marine and non-marine sales have grown.
Earlier Dubois spent four years on the project management team at Westport Shipyards, where he was responsible for CNC technology in both engineering and manufacturing. He has also held marine industry management roles with Bayliner and Wellcraft.
Marine Concepts is headquarters in Cape Coral, Florida and has plants in Pine Island and Sarasota, Florida.
Together with its sister company, JRL Ventures Inc, they provide engineering and design services and quality tooling to the marine, aerospace, transportation, RV and theme park industries, as well as the US military.
Over 125 specialists are working in 60,000sq ft of engineering, CNC milling, and production facilities.

The Royal Yachting Association has chosen sailors that will be recommended to the British Olympic Association to participate at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
International Olympic Classes sailors have gathered at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, home of the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition, prior to the start of the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta on 19 September.
Tim Hancock, chairman of the RYA's Olympic Steering Group and a member of the RYA selection committee, unveiled the sailors at a reception that was held there.
The following sailors have been selected by the RYA's Olympic Selection Committee:

20 September 2007, Gold Coast Boat Show 2007

Scheduled for the weekend of October 26-28, the Gold Coast Boat Show is expected to attract more than 80 exhibitors including the top manufacturers and marine retailers.
The show is set down for the Carrara Sports Complex, right in the centre of the Gold Coast and easily accessed from all directions. It is organized by Marine Queensland.
Barry Hibberd, Marine Queensland General Manager, said members are planning to support the show 'with a fantastic display.'
Over 80 percent of the vessels registered to Gold Coast owners are less than 6.0-metres, according to Marine Queensland statistics. Hibberd announced that the Gold Coast is Queensland's largest boating community, with more than 13 percent of all boats registered. And the growth continues with six percent a year.
The Gold Coast Boat Show will offer some spectacular entertainment for show visitors with the help of the convenient background of the Nerang River.
The entertainment will include a fishing expo staged by angling guru Bill Corten, complete with expert presenters, water skiing and wake boarding demonstrations, a live weigh-in for a planned Bream Tournament and a sail-hoisting competition.

Rayglass, New Zealand's largest boat manufacturer, has been acquired by the world's largest recreational boat builder Brunswick. In 2003 Brunswick bought 49 per cent of Rayglass. Tony Hembrow, Rayglass' managing director, said that now Brunswick has bought the remaining 51 per cent of the company taking its ownership to 100%.
The sale price was not disclosed, because of confidentiality agreement. Rayglass exports its fibreglass runabouts and inflatables, including the flagship Protector RIB to 17 countries.
The manufacturer started from one boat a month in 1988, and now builds almost four hundred boats a year for local and export markets. Brunswick's brands include Bayliner, Sea Ray, Hatteras, Boston Whaler, Maxum, Sea Boss and Trophy. There are over 2300 dealers and distributors worldwide.

According to the report, entitled Economic Benefits of Coastal Marinas of the UK and Channel Islands, marina sector is worth 500 million pounds to the UK economy.
Over 1,700 people are working there. The sector supports the employment of 22,000 more people and brings significant benefits to local economies in terms of supply chain businesses and tourist jobs.
Commissioned by the British Marine Federation, in partnership with The Crown Estate, Jersey Harbours and supported by The Yacht Harbour Association, the report was launched at the Southampton Boat Show. The 500 million pounds in Gross Value Added to the UK and Channel Islands economy and may be as high as £700 million.
Rob Stevens, Chief Executive of the British Marine Federation said that this report shows the important contribution of the coastal marinas sector in both value and employment terms to the UK economy and highlights the importance of securing access to the water.

Companies short listed to construct world-class sailing facilities at Weymouth and Portland, have been named by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA). It should be one of the first sites ready for the London 2012 Games.
The Olympic and Paralympic sailing events in 2012 will be hosted by the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA). Construction companies are to build a new permanent 150m slipway; a new race-boat parking area; new race-boat lifting facilities; and new race-boat moorings to be sheltered by a wave protection structure.
Birse, Carillion, Dean & Dyball, Edmund Nuttall, Raymond Brown are these 5 companies competing to deliver the works which will provide new and improved sailing facilities for use during the Games. Construction work due to start in the beginning of next year and be completed by the end of 2008.
David Higgins, Olympic Delivery Authority Chief Executive, said the shortlist makes sure Weymouth and Portland is one of the first venues ready for 2012. Both athletes and the local community will benefit from new world-class sailing facilities.

The Princess 95 Motor Yacht was launched in May 2007. After that Princess customers became interested in larger flybridge models. New Prestige 38 Sport Top by Jeanneau will be presented at London Boat Show at ExCeL next year. According to the French builder the new boat will be on offer by April next year. So far there are only provisional specs and drawings.
The boat will feature a dinghy garage, and "will offer a spacious interior, a generous cockpit saloon and sundeck", which is quite unusual for a 38-footer. And it is not known, will this affect cockpit seating or not.
The 38 Sport Top will be the eighth motorboat in the French yard's Prestige range.

New mega yacht, Areti I, was launched by Burger Boat Company on September 9, 2007. Later this year the second identical 127' (38.7m) tri-deck yacht will be launched.
The yacht's owner is Russian industrialist who decided to build two identical yachts due to business interests that divide his time almost equally between Russia/Europe and the U.S. This will give him constant access to his yachts in both regions.
The interiors were designed by the Burger Design Team, are distinctively styled with a simple, uncluttered elegance. The vessels are powered by Caterpillar engines, have zero-speed stabilization and full "glass bridge" navigation electronic.
Areti I will be based in the U.S. for cruising the Eastern Seaboard, the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Areti II will be based in Europe for cruising the Mediterranean, Adriatic and Aegean Seas and the Balkans.

Premier Shipping & Packing (PSP) will be title sponsor of next year's Southampton Boat Show, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2008. The announcement was made by the UK's National Boat Shows (NBS), organizer of the London and Southampton boat shows.
NBS managing director Andrew Williams and PSP managing director Frank Dixie have agreed the three-year contract. The agreement will see the show become known as the PSP Southampton Boat Show.
PSP is one of the UK's leading logistics companies specializing in boat transportation, marine spares and international express couriers. The company was founded in 1998 and is headquartered in Hampshire, with offices in London, Northamptonshire, Vietnam, China and Hong Kong.
NBS is the trade association for the UK boating industry and a subsidiary of the British Marine Federation (BMF).

Harken New Zealand has been chosen by Spinlock, a UK manufacturer of marine hardware, to distribute the company's Spinlock Hardware and Deckware Series on the New Zealand market.
The newly formed company is being managed by Garry Lock, who earlier served as a long-term Spinlock and Harken specifier while working at Cookson Boats, a custom racing yacht builder based in Auckland.
According to Spinlock, from October 1, Sail Tech Oy of Helsinki, Finland will distribute Spinlock Hardware and Deckware on the Finnish market. The company is managed by Jukka Herrala and is a well-known supplier of performance sailboat hardware and clothing.
Spinlock is headquartered in Cowes on the UK's Isle of Wight.
The company designs and produces a wide range of rope-holding products from low to high-load cleats, clutches and jammers, as well as deck organizers, blocks, fairleads and more.
The Deckware Series of safety equipment covers a range of lifejacket harnesses for sailing.
